this was the fourth song to be released on patreon, july 2022
"here is a demo of a song i've been holding onto for a very long time in a box of precious, private ornaments, but, seeing as it is was my birthday yesterday, and in the spirit of our digital museum here, i thought it's at last time to share it with you. In 2003, shortly after Lycanthropy was released I began work on two albums, One became Wind in the Wires, and the other I put to one side indefinitely, The remaining demo's of this album have been released on through my archive e.ps, The Halcyon, Natural History, The Rainy Day Hill, The Matador, this recording here, Torch Song, is the only remaining recording I have of the project, perhaps there is one more, a version of "Get Lost" that preceded The Magic Position album, and belonged on this one. The album was a narrative album of a young human navigating a world after the end of the world, I still have the story etched into my brain and penned down in various chapters, and I feel, like all the fragments from that forgotten record, they are to converge in my lifetime to make a finished project, a fully realised story to tell, in whatever format it may manifest itself, that as i write, here almost two decades later, I see an apple tree in my garden, the foxes wail outside my bedroom all summer the same as I sung them on this song and each night, snail tracks are drawn across the lawn, that I have never discarded the story or my endearment for its songs, is auspicious enough, for now"
lyrics
Evening falls
Across the sleeping garden
Snail tracks are drawn across the lawn
Silver moths
Are caught up in the strong beam
Of my fathers torch
On full batteries
Theres a foxhole
Underneath the apple tree
On silent nights I go crawling in
Down through tunnels
That lead out beyond this city
To unknown lands
Upon my hands and knees
On full batteries
Never known the warmth of a lover
Why should I give
When no one can receive
But oh, before I block
This hole up behind me
Heres one last chance
To catch me in your beam
Give me full batteries
Or nothing
Give me nothing
Leave me alone
If the light isn't strong
Then I'll be gone, gone
But come please
Prove me wrong
Before I'm gone, gone
Come catch me

Green Altar has special place in my heart, such a beautiful song with touching words. It came out shortly before our wedding and we had our first dance to it, weeks after the wedding we saw and met chelsea and she congratulated us, this song always stirs up all the emotions moises9598
