this was the first track to be released on Patreon, April 2002
"there was a time in 2002 and 2003 where I was going through a process of finding the right songs to make my debut album and opening statement to the world with my first e.p. I would put my laptop in the wicker basket of my bike, wrapped in a blanket and cycle down the river from my bedroom studio in Wandsworth to Limehouse to the studio of Kristian Craig Robinson, Capitol K
although i went into that process emboldened and stubborn to be the sole producer of the album, i would often sit in his and his partner Rachels' living room after these missionary river rides and play them what songs i wanted to finish there and make part of the album or ep. Sometimes there would be debate of the why of which songs would not make it. Some were never questioned and formed the spinal cord of Lycanthropy very early.. though often when the song was too personal, when actual names were named or the subject was of too distressing adolescent situations unresolved, I was advised to put them aside. As a teenager at the time, I'm grateful now for the guidance, for the notion of retaining a little privacy to have as shelter going forward from a private to public life. I remember "The Chidcatcher" was deliberated and advised against much also, but somehow I pushed for its place on the album, thinking it could provide comfort or solidarity to someone further down the line, whereas this song maybe too idiosyncratic to be useful. As a forgotten page from my little history, now boats that were burnt are rebuilt, I'm happy for it to see light of day finally"
the photograph in the artwork is of me aged 16 on the bank of the thames in richmond, in the gothic gardens near where i had just moved to the summer since the events that give this song its name.
lyrics
Jojo can you hear me
i'm writing this to say
i'm sorry for my madness
And sorry 'bout the pain
You see i'm caught in a dark day
Fingers crossed for light
It's a fatal situation
That I'm gonna have to fight
So I call for help this evening
I call for domesticity
I'm a forest fire burning backward
Back to our home to see
To see...
Open patio doors
Papa just been to the store
Fresh cherries glistening in the colander
A white cat in the apple tree
Knocking ripe 'uns down for me
Jojo playing a gymnopedie
So I call for help this evening
They've changed all the locks on me
I'm a little boy running backwards
Back to our home to see
To see
Mama she's a painter
Portraits of our childhood
I wonder if she's painted right over me?
Kate, Kate and Anna
Court and Spark in the breeze
Clarinets and Wind Quartets
Come to sleep with me
I call for help this evening
Call for a fitting key
I'm a forest fire
Burning backward
Burning for domesticity

Green Altar has special place in my heart, such a beautiful song with touching words. It came out shortly before our wedding and we had our first dance to it, weeks after the wedding we saw and met chelsea and she congratulated us, this song always stirs up all the emotions moises9598
